Luxembourg's ICT sector promotes employment

The sector of information and communications technologies (ICT) in Luxembourg definitely has the wind in its sails: not only that the country hosts the headquarters of world famous companies, but recent initiatives by the government and economic actors, such as Digital Lëtzebuerg, aim to further promote development of the sector. In this context, a group of actors including the Federation of integrators, the House of Training, the Higher Institute of Economy and the Competence Centre Construction Engineering (Centre de compétences génie technique du bâtiment) embarked on the creation of the Competence Centre Information and Communication Technologies (Centre de compétences Information and Communication Technologies, CdC ICT).

Promoting tourism in the country will be entrusted to an Economic Interest Group (EIG)

All regional and national actors are working together more closely to raise the country's appeal

As of 27 November 2015, the Government Council gave green light to the creation of an Economic Interest Group (EIG) to conduct tourist promotion of the country. An analysis of the current situation revealed that the potential for operational synergies between tourism stakeholders, public and private, is not being fully exploited. A greater interaction between the National Tourist Board (ONT), the regional tourist offices (RTOs) and other private sector actors is therefore necessary so that the common interests of all stakeholders are better represented and taken into account.

On 24 November 2015, Secretary of State of the Economy Francine Closener handed over certificates to those establishments meeting the criteria for being awarded the EcoLabel, a label certifying ecologically responsible accommodation.

Max Pinckers and Jeff Weber are the 2015 laureates

Every two years since 2004, the Edward Steichen Award Luxembourg Association awards the Edward Steichen Award Luxembourg to a young artist of the Greater Region who shows promise in the field of contemporary art. A reward of a certain importance, because the prize includes a six month participation in the famous ISPC programme (International Studio and Curatorial Programme) in New York. The award ceremony took place on 20 November at the Museum of Modern Art Grand-Duc Jean (MUDAM), in the presence of the Grand Duchess and Culture Minister Maggy Nagel and with the participation of a special guest, artist Sylvie Blocher

According to the 2015 edition of the European Digital Cities Index, Luxembourg ranks in the middle of the table among the capitals and 7 other cities of Europe that are included in the ranking. For Start-Up companies, the City of Luxembourg wins the 18th place, while it reaches 16th place for Scale-Up companies, i.e. small, fest developing businesses with fewer than 10 employees.

Electromobility: deployment of the national infrastructure of 800 public charging stations by 2020

Until 2020, 800 public charging terminals for cars powered by an electric motor and for hybrid cars with rechargable batteries ('plug-in' hybrid cars) should be set up. 400 terminals are going to be installed throughout the national territory on Park+Ride parking lots, the rest at municipal parking lots and public parking spaces. Each terminal is equipped with two charging points. Thus, a total of 1,600 parking spaces are going to be dedicated to the charging of cars.

he private education establishment Education First (EF) has released the new 2015 edition of its English skills index called EPI. This 5th edition of the report, initially launched in 2011, lists a total of 70 countries and territories on the basis of data from English tests conducted online with adults. Based on the results of these tests, the authors subsequently calculate a score for each country. And Luxembourg has reached an excellent 8th position!
