'Déng Talenter, Déng Zukunft' (Your talents, your future), that's the motto of the national contest of trades and professions LuxSkills. The 8th edition takes place from 24 to 27 February 2016 at the National Centre for Vocational Training (CNFPC) in Esch/Alzette.
The LuxSkills contest, organised by the WorldSkills Luxembourg asbl association, has three main objectives:
- promoting continuous vocational training;
- communicating the passion for crafts and trades to adolescents;
- proving to parents that vocational training can lead to professional progress and actual careers.
The national competition is open to adolescents up to the age of 22 years, and takes place every two years. Registration for the 2016 edition is already closed. The selection of candidates is based on recommendation by federations or schools or based on a 'final integrated project' (projet intégré final) passed with honours.
During the competition, candidates have 22 hours to complete a project in their specific field, such as landscaping, masonry, jewelry, web design, baking, etc.
The competition is open to the public, which means that visitors can observe young professionals from various trades and professions throughout the duration of the tests.
WorldSkills Luxembourg association is part of the WorldSkills International association which organises competitions worldwide. Similarly, EuroSkills, member of WorldSkills, organises events at a European level. A Luxembourgish delegation is going to participate in the 2016 edition, to be held in Göteborg (Sweden).
