Since 1 May, although temperatures may still be a bit low, lakes and ponds will be reopened for fans of swimming and tanning.
The following surface waters are open for swimming during the bathing season 2016:
- Lake Weiswampach (lake reserved for swimming) in the town of Weiswampach
- Remerschen ponds (pond reserved for swimming) in the town of Schengen
- Lake Upper Sûre (see photo) in the adjacent municipalities of Boulaide, Rambrouch, Neunhausen, Lac de la Haute-Sûre and Esch-sur-Sûre.
During the bathing season, the microbiological quality is monitored at monitoring points indicated in the table below, according to the grand ducal regulation of 19 May 2009 determining the special protection measures and the state monitoring programmes for bathing water. On the basis of article 3 of the grand ducal regulation, the quality of bathing water is being assessed over the years 2011 to 2014.
The 2016 bathing season runs from 1 May to 31 August.
