Ready, steady, go! On Saturday 28 May 2016 the 11th edition of the night-marathon ING Europe Marathon Luxembourg is going to take place. For this event, the Luxembourg capital is going to be transformed into a giant course on which thousands of runners and onlookers meet. The ones in order to take up the challenge, the others to cheer them on.
42.195km through Luxembourg City
The track of 42.195km leads through the boroughs of Kirchberg, Limpertsberg, Belair, Merl, Hollerich, the train station district, as well as the city centre, with its parks and narrow streets in the old city centre. The participants will thus be able to discover the capital in all its diversity. the historic city with its fortifications, residential areas, business districts, its European institutions, etc.
Considering the topographical features of Luxembourg City, the marathon's altitude profile is very demanding. Three other circuits are proposed: a semi-marathon (21.0975km), a mini-marathon of 4.2km and a Team Run over the total length (4 legs). 14.000 runners from all over the world registered, their age varies from 3 to 83.
The start will be at 7 p.m. at the Luxexpo.
The organisers await some 150,000 spectators - for due reason: every year, the Luxembourg marathon evolves into a huge popular festival. 18 DJs, 300 samba musicians, 4 Portuguese folklore groups and other music groups are going to play for runners and spectators alike.
The whole city is thus going to be out of control, including the road network. Several roads will be closed for traffic and bus lines will be diverted. In order to make sure that you will be able to pass an agreeable evening (and night) as far as mobility is concerned, we recommend the use of public transportation, or to park your car at the P+R Sud or on the Glacis.
For pedestrians, crossing points are planned.
