After the huge success of the first editions of the famous triathlon, the fourth edition of the Ironman 70.3 takes place this weekend. On Saturday 18 June, there will be quite a line-up to take up the challenge again.
Due to high water levels in the Moselle, the event has been changed to a duathlon, starting at 10 a.m. with a first 5 km run through Remich. This will be followed by a 90 km cycle race. The final stage in the Ironman 70.3 event will be a half-marathon alongside the river, finishing up in Remich.
The Ironman 70.3 is a 'light' version of the traditional Ironman event. The distances are halved, which means that participants in good form can achieve high speeds, and perhaps even break a record or two. The name of the event reflects the total distance covered, which is 70.3 miles (113 km).
A spectacular competition
You will have understood: the race promises to be extraordinary, with plenty of suspense - a be-there event for all sport enthusiasts.
Registration is closed - now it's up to the public to line the banks of the Moselle and the streets of Remich to encourage the competitors.
In order to avoid traffic jams the organisers have foreseen shuttle busses at the P&R in Mondorf-les-Bains and in Besch (Germany). The 'Park & Ride' car parks will be signposted. A shuttle bus will commute between the sports hall in Stadtbredimus and Remich.
Let yourself be tempted by Luxembourg's culinary specialties
An event like this is always an opportunity for a region to promote itself - which the Moselle region does with the Wine Village at the Esplanade in Remich. From Friday, 17 June until Saturday 18 June 2016, several wines and crémants can be tasted in a friendly atmosphere, animated by music bands.
