The 70th edition of the Avignon Festival will start on 6 July 2016. It will gather the best of the best of the French speaking world of theatre. As every year, Luxembourg is also part of the festival, well at least kind of: it will be represented at the 'Off' Festival of Avignon.
Contrary to the venues where the official festival is held, the productions in the 'off' festival occupy more than a hundred venues, some of which temporarily arranged for the festival.
This year La Parure by Guy de Maupassant, produced by the Théâtre du Centaure Luxembourg and directed by Stéphane Ghislain Roussel from the Cie Compagnie Ghislain Roussel will be performed at the Théâtre de l'Espoir.
Moreover, Des Voix sourdes by Bernard Marie Koltès, directed by Fabio Godinho and the Compagnie tdp, will be part of the Festival of Avignon this year. Fabio Godinho is well known in the Luxembourg art scene. This actor and director has already worked several times in Luxembourg, namely at the MUDAM, the Théâtre du Centaure and the Théâtre National.
Furthermore, on the occasion of the Festival of Avignon, the Ministry of Culture will organize a professional meeting on theatre directing in the Grand Duchy and exchange with France. This meeting will take place on 13 July 2016 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Atelier théâtre in Avignon.
