Gare Art Festival - creation in the heart of the city

Six artists from all over the world will be taking part in the 16th edition of this international sculpture symposium

Starting on 29 July 2016, the public will be able to watch the artists involved in the Gare Art Festival 2016 while they work. During the first part of the festival, the artists will work in a public place on a material decided in advance; each artist will work in his or her own personal way. For 2016, the material selected is paperclay. The results of the work will be on display beneath the glass canopy of the central railway station in Luxembourg City from 5 August to 22 September 2016.

'The Bitter Years' by Edward Steichen - a new stage in the life of the exhibition

Display in Dudelange, with a further 88 photographs documenting poverty in the United States in the Thirties

'The Bitter Years' was the last exhibition curated by Edward Steichen, a photographer of Luxembourgish origin, in 1962 as director of the Department of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. It is a tribute to documentary photography, bringing together more than 200 images from one of the largest collective projects in the history of photography.

Until 17 September 2016, sculptures will transform Wiltz into an open-air museum

When monumental sculptures are being presented in a natural space or an urban context, they create a much more intense effect that if they were on display in a museum or gallery – thus the conclusion of the exhibition ARTWiltz 4, which takes place in the context of the Wiltz Festival. The open-air exhibition thus provides the scenery necessary for the staging of monumental sculptures made of wood, concrete, steel or aluminum. It takes place from 1 July until 18 September 2016.

According to a study carried out by the French institute CESER Grand Est (Conseil économique, social et environnemental régional), based on, among other things, figures provided by the Grand Duchy's national institute of statistics and economic studies STATEC, 87,779 French workers cross the border from France into Luxembourg each day to get to their workplace in the Grand Duchy. Thus Luxembourg on its own accounts for 50% of cross-border employment in the Grand Est region.

His work 'L'Architecture des temps instables' depicts migration in the 20th and 21th century

On 4 July 2016 at 7.30 p.m., the Servais Foundation for Luxembourg Literature will award the Servais Prize 2016 to Jean Portante for his novel 'L'Architecture des temps instables', which was published in French at the éditions Phi in Differdange. The solemn ceremony will take place at the National Literature Centre in Mersch. Since 1992, the Servais Prize has been awarded to the most significative literary opus published during the preceding year.
