Pol Cruchten creates a stir in Brazil!

On Sunday 21 August 2016, the film 'Voices from Chernobyl' directed by Luxembourger Pol Cruchten won the grand prize 'Cora Coralina' at the 18th International Environmental Film and Video Festival (FICA) in Brazil.

Selected among 350 productions in total, Pol Cruchten's 90-minute feature film was able to once again make a difference, by winning the hisghest award at the 2016 FICA. The jury emphasised the poetic vision of the film that transcends the harshness of reality.

9th Festival du Film Francophone d'Angoulême: Luxembourg has coproduced two film taking part in the competition

The 9th Festival du Film Francophone d'Angoulême (Angoulême Festival of the Francophone Film) is taking place from 23 until 28 August 2016. Among the nie movies in competition, two are actually Luxembourgish coproductions: 'Souvenir', a comedy drama, and 'Noces', a drama. Famous Belgian actress Virginie Efra and famous Belgian film critic and producer Gilles Jacob are heading the jury.

The 676th edition of the Schueberfouer

From 19 August until 7 September, the largest funfair in Luxembourg and the Greater Region is back with 20 days of fun

This year, the Schueberfouer takes place from 19 August to 7 September, at the Glacis as always. Over 2 million visitors are going to want to visit this event, and they all come to enjoy the festive atmosphere of this national funfair, with its 190 attractions, its animation, its numerous culinary delights and not to forget its majestic ferris wheel.

These days, the traditional blessing of herbs on the Feast of the Assumption - 15 August, a public holiday - is only held in a few places, and most notably in Greiveldange, a picturesque village on the Moselle.

On 16 January 2016, during an official ceremony – after the presentation at the grand ducal palace –, the Luxembourg Olympic and Sports Committee presented the team of athletes representing the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, from 5 to 21 August 2016. The team is made up of 10 athletes who will take part in: athletics, road cycling, swimming, tennis and table tennis.

Yonas Kindé, under international protection in Luxembourg, is part of the Olympic team composed entirely of refugees

Without having experienced this oneself, it's hard to really imagine the suffering endured by millions of refugees around the world. Yonas Kindé, however, understands what it means to flee his home in search for a better life. The Ethiopian who now lives in Luxembourg is one of ten refugees of #TeamRefugees, a team participating in the 2016 Olympics Games in Rio de Janeiro, entirely composed of refugees.
