No plans for August? Then join the 2016 edition of the 'Congés Annulés' festival to be held in the Rotondes near the central railway station in Luxembourg City! Throughout the month of August, there will be an unusual musical programme with local and international rock/pop/electro bands.
44 bands and 29 DJ sets – with more than one concert a day for a month, the holidays have definitively been canceled at the Rotondes. The aim of the festival is to make up for the 'annual leave' slack in August with an intense programme of original music evenings: Indeed, the choice is very eclectic, with 23 international and 21 national groups that were chosen so as to profit from the weeks in August to venture away from traditional programming, according to the head of the musical programme. Thus, the group Mutiny on the Bounty and jazz musician Pascal Schumacher, two regulars of the Luxembourg music scene, feature both on the programme, as well as the Finnish experimental pop group Liima or the Swedish musical improvisation group Exploded View.
Unlike last year, some concerts are held outside near the refreshment bar 'Buvette', a cozy coffee bar inviting for a drink in a relaxed atmosphere. The festival is likely to be as much of a success as usual, particularly among fans of alternative and even experimental music.
The musical programme is supplemented by films projected on a large screen in the contect of the City Open Air Cinema. Together with occasional mid-afternoon workshops ('Apéros families'), the Rotondes offer a varied programme, for all music tastes and age groups. Let yourself be tempted to experience an extraordinary cultural summer.
Many events are free, while others are only accessible with a pre-purchased ticket. These are available directly on the Rotondes website. Remaining tickets can be purchased at the box office.
