Dirndl, beer and pretzel — every year, the Oktoberfest attracts thousands of revelers who enjoy the unique atmosphere. National and international music groups play for the pleasure of the visitors, there is a traditions procession and you'll be able to see men and women dressed up in Lederhosen and Dirndl. No, we are not talking about the mega-event which takes place every year in Munich, but about its somewhat smaller Luxembourgish cousin which takes place from 22 to 25 September 2016 in Alzingen, south of Luxembourg City.
The Oktoberfest in Alzingen has been mirroring the atmosphere of Munich's original for 15 years. Under a large tent or a chalet as found in the Alps, revelers can enjoy a directly imported beer from Bavaria, specially brewed for the big Oktoberfest in Munich. The group Dëppegéisser and the famous Höhner from Cologne will play up to create the fitting musical atmosphere.
Outside, rides and sweets shops are waiting for visitors big and small in a fairground atmosphere, all under a sunny Indian summer sky which Luxembourg is well known for.
On Sunday, 25 September 2016 the traditional procession will take place at 10.30 a.m.. Don't miss it, be it only to see the fabulous traditional costumes which the participants wear, and the musical performances.
So, if Munich is too far away for you, then make your way to Alzingen, to celebrate along in Luxembourg's largest Oktoberfest!
