The next municipal elections will take place on 8 October 2017. Since 2005, citizens of foreign nationality, who have reached the age of 18 years on the day of the municipal elections and who have resided for at least five years in the Grand Duchy at the time of their registration on the electoral lists, are allowed to vote in the municipal elections.
In order to encourage citizens of foreign nationality to register on the electoral lists, the Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration, and the Greater Region launched an information and awareness campaign which was presented at a recent press conference. The Minister for Family Affairs and Integration, Corinne Cahen, declared: 'Participation in local politics is an important aspect of integration'. She also thanked the numerous partners and associations who try to promote political involvement of foreigners.
The campaign is coordinated by the Luxembourg Reception and Integration Agency (OLAI). Emile Eicher, president of SYVICOL, and representatives of the Cefis (Centre for intercultural and social studies and formation) were also present at the press conference.
As part of the campaign, different information and awareness tools have been developed. At your disposal on demand: information leaflets in ten languages, posters in five languages and information kits.
