03-startupThe 8th March is a date to remember for the startups of Luxembourg and the Greater Region. For its first appearance in Europe, the well known Startup World Cup makes stop in the Grand Duchy. The international event is constructed around 16 regional semi-finals organised in all parts of the world.

The semi-final of western Europe will take place this Wednesday 8th March at Kirchberg in the building of EY Luxembourg . The winner of the regional event will represent Luxembourg at the final to be held on the 24th March 2017 in the Silicon Valley in the United States. The victor of the final gets to win 1.000.000 US dollars in investments!

The goal of the event is to interconnect the startup ecosystem on a global scale. The most talented, innovative and creative companies of each country will go head to head at the finals. A unique opportunity for Luxembourg's startups to gain international exposure, especially in the Silicon Valley. Furthermore, the participants of the grand final in the US will have the opportunity to meet with international key players of the sector and eventually create new partnerships or financing possibilities.

Luxembourg, partner of startups

The "Startup World Cup" in Luxembourg is organised by the Farvest group in collaboration with EY Luxembourg. It is no coincidence that Luxembourg has been selected to host part of the event: in fact, through its Digital Lëtzebuerg initiative, the government of the Grand Duchy is one of the main partners of the happening.

Also, over the last couple of years, Luxembourg has invested heavily to become a «nation of startups». It is in this context that the ministry launched in 2016 the Digital Tech Fund. Furthermore, Luxinnovation, the national agency for the promotion of innovation and research and its programme Fit4Start are also part of the elements meant to promote business creation and sustain startups. The Luxembourg Future Fund and the National Credit and Investment Institution (Snci) grant financial aids to young national and international startups. The network Innohub Luxembourg is aiming to turn the Grand-Duchy into a genuine incubator for startups. Finally, the House of Entrepreneurship's main objective is twofold: the promotion of entrepreneurship and of entrepreneurial spirit at a national level and the administrative simplification of procedures connected to this type of initiative.
