This European system, drawn up by Hotelstars Union, uses a standard classification for hotels based on directives and criteria common to the participating countries.
The new classification for the Grand Duchy's hotels offers a pro-active, up-to-date and reliable system in line with changes in the tourist market and with clients' expectations. The system has been set up in close collaboration with the National Federation of Hotel, Restaurant and Café Employers (HORESCA).
The Ministry of the Economy will bear the cost of the initial classification of a hotel during the 2017-2018 period. Hotel keepers will now be able to visit the official classification site (www.classification.lu) to carry out an auto-assessment of their hotel and follow the classification procedure online. The Ministry, in collaboration with HORESCA, will start the first hotel classifications on 31 March 2017.
There are also plans to introduce a similar classification system for camp sites, using suitably adapted criteria. The Ministry of the Economy is currently working closely with the Camprilux professional association to achieve this; the system should be ready to launch in autumn 2017.
