'Let'z Go Cycling' contest

The #LetzGoCycling contest lasts until 7 June.

This is the first activity aimed at promoting the Grand Duchy and its relationship with cycling. The #LetzGoCycling contest, which lasts until 7 June 2017, invites you to take a photo of yourself on a bike in one of your favourite places in the Grand Duchy and upload it to the dedicated website at letzgocycling.lu.

SES launches new connected vehicle

On 20 April 2017, the global satellite operator SES presented its new vehicle using Satcom technology.

Specially designed to cope with emergency situations such as disasters, locations with destroyed infrastructure, defence, humanitarian and civilian missions, SES's new rapid response vehicle is the first to offer collaborative communication technologies on multiple orbits and frequencies.

Luxembourg in 19th place on the 2017 globalisation index

The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) just published its 2017 edition of the composite globalisation index 'KOF'.

This index reflects the state of globalisation in 187 countries throughout the world, based on 23 variables grouped into 3 sub-categories: economic globalisation (36% ponderation in the KOF index), social globalisation (37% ponderation), political globalisation (27% ponderation).

ECA International has recently issued its annual "Global Liveability ranking". Luxembourg-City is listed among the Top 10 cities.

ECA International, an HR solution and information provider, has recently published its annual ranking of the most favorable cities for European expats. Luxembourg comes 9th among more than 470 cities analysed throughout the world.

In its most recent survey, TNS Ilres sheds light on the most employed social media platforms in Luxembourg.

Without great surprise, Facebook is the most popular social network in Luxembourg. Being cited by nearly 80% of the interviewed persons, it is the social media benchmark in the Grand Duchy, particularly among the 16-24 year old people.

Unveiling of the appearance of the Luxembourgish pavilion

Metaform and The Space Factory have been chosen for the conception of the pavilion at the World Expo in Dubai in 2020.

Among 19 projects submitted, a winner has been chosen out of three shortlisted concepts. The winning project, presented by the architectural office Metaform, centers around an elegant silhouette based on the Möbius strip.

The University of Luxembourg is among the top 15 young universities worldwide

According to the THE (Times Higher Education) annual index, the University of Luxembourg moved up three places in 2017.

The Young Universities Summit was held in Brisbane (Australia) from 5 to 7 April 2017; it was organised by THE (Times Higher Education), a specialist magazine in the field of higher education. THE revealed its annual ranking of 200 young universities worldwide. The University of Luxembourg occupies 11th place, three higher than in 2016.

The Grand Duchy at the Bolzano festival

From 5 to 9 April 2017, the Grand Duchy was the guest at the film festival in Bolzano (Italy).

The 'Bolzano Film Festival Bozen' has a reputation in cinematographic circles for its privileged dialogue between North and South, and more particularly between Germany and Italy. The programming is highly original, with art-house films – often being screened for the first time – and the languages used, with of course Italian but also German.

For the 20th anniversary of its global CEO Survey, PwC Luxembourg decided to break new ground and take a closer look at the economic situation and prospects in the Grand Duchy. 49 heads of businesses located in the Grand Duchy assessed their current situation and expected future trends.

The audiovisual press is still leading the field for consumption use.

In the Grand Duchy, the major traditional media still dominate the media landscape. But people are reading the paper press much less, while digital consumption continues to forge ahead. This is the conclusion of the recent TNS Ilres Plurimédia study.

Blue Horizon wants to make life in space possible

The new company will operate from Luxembourg

About one year ago, Luxembourg announced the creation of a legal framework in order to support the exploitation of space resources by privately owned companies. Since the announcement of this initiative called Spaceresources.lu in February 2016, the Luxembourg Government has multiplied its announcements and actions by inviting companies active in the field of space exploration to Luxembourg. Blue Horizon is going to be a homegrown initiative in the field of space technologies.

Luxembourg - nowhere near the most expensive city in the world

The EIU has just published its cost of living survey of more than 130 cities worldwide. Luxembourg City is far from being among the most expensive.

Luxembourg takes 62nd place among the 133 cities analysed. The cost of living has remained stable compared with last year. It shares its ranking with a number of other cities, including Dubai, Montreal and Istanbul. The large cities in the countries neighbouring the Grand Duchy are considered to be more expensive: Paris and Geneva are in 7th place, Frankfurt in 23rd place, Brussels in 39th place, and Amsterdam in 55th place.

SES launched its first satellite onboard a recycled rocket

Elon Musk's SpaceX has introduced a technology which allows to reduce costs considerably.

On 30 March 2017, SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral in Florida, carrying the SES-10 communications satellite from the world's largest satellite maker, Luxembourg's SES. The collaboration will go down in history as the first geostationary commercial satellite to have been launched on a flight-proven rocket booster.
