CSSF 2016 annual report

More staff, more inspections, and a favourable regulatory framework

In its annual report for 2016, Luxembourg's Financial Sector Supervisory Commission (Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier - CSSF), which 'polices' the Grand Duchy's financial centre, confirms its role as regulator and draws up a favourable report on the sector. Regarding the financial sector's activities, the income generated and the assets under management remain at a high level, while on the supervisory side, the amount of fines remained stable at 1,330,950 euros in 2016, despite an enormous increase in staff numbers and on-the-spot inspections.

Three Luxembourg co-productions screened as world premieres at TIFF 2017

The 42nd edition of the Toronto International Film Festival will be held from 7 to 17 September 2017.

From 7 to 17 September, the city of Toronto will host over 300 films from around the world for the 42nd edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, one of the biggest festivals in the world of cinema. Among the participants, three Luxembourg co-productions supported by the Film Fund Luxembourg are aiming to convince the Canadian audience and boost Luxembourg's reputation for film creation.

Aerowaves Dance Festival Luxembourg

The 'crème de la crème' of young contemporary dance in the Grand Duchy

The creative platform Aerowaves will be opening for the 2nd edition of its festival of contemporary dance, combining the talents of young dancers/choreographers with the virtuosity of professionals in the dance world. During three evenings, from 31 August to 3 September, the Luxembourg Centre of Choreographic Creation (Centre de création chorégraphique luxembougeois Trois C-L) and the Neumünster Abbey Cultural Exchange Centre will be presenting nine performances to surprise, question, move, dazzle and thrill the public.

New technologies - very high-speed Internet gaining ground

According to the telecoms report by the Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (Institut luxembourgeois de régulation, ILR), subscriptions for fixed very high-speed Internet and mobile Internet traffic are very popular at the moment.

In the Grand Duchy, the number of subscriptions for fixed very high-speed Internet (more than 30Mbps) increased by 24.9% last year, reaching a figure of 109,200. This means that very high-speed access has overtaken high-speed access. Mobile Internet traffic reached a new record level of 16,844.2 terabytes - explosive growth of 42% between 2015 and 2016, according to the ILR 2016 report on telecoms statistics for the Grand Duchy.

The Schueberfouer returns for the 677th time!

This year, from 23 August to 11 September, 260 attractions await you at the biggest fun fair in the Greater Region.

This year, the Schueberfouer takes place from 23 August to 11 September at the Glacis, as always. Over 2 million visitors are expected for the event, and they all come to enjoy the festive atmosphere of this national fun fair with its 260 attractions– including 80 street vendors on Allée Scheffer – its programme of entertainment, its numerous culinary delights and of course its majestic Ferris wheel!

Free public transport for students as of 1 August

Every student enrolled at a post-secondary institution in Luxembourg or elsewhere can apply for an mKaart.

As of 1 August 2017, every student enrolled at a university or post-secondary education institution can request an mKaart, a season ticket enabling the user to travel free of charge on all means of public transport, throughout the entire Luxembourg network.
