Entrepreneurship remains attractive in Luxembourg

According to the international study 'Global Entrepreneurship Monitoring', the rate of entrepreneurs has reached 9.2% in the Grand Duchy.

Within the framework of the international programme 'Global Entrepreneurship Monitoring', Luxembourg's national institute for statistics Statec, in partnership with the Ministry of the Economy and the Chamber of Commerce, has just presented the results of a study on entrepreneurship in Luxembourg. According to this study, the proportion of new entrepreneurs has reached 9.2% and thus remains above the European average of 8.6%.

François Bausch wants to consult the public on future improvements to land use planning

The Luxembourg Minister for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure will launch an invitation to citizens on 8 January to meet together to reflect on specific measures to achieve a better balance in the country's land use planning.

On 8 January 2018, a public consultation will be launched as part of the review process for Luxembourg's Land Use Planning Programme. Four "regional labs" will be held across the country, involving a total of nearly 200 participants. Each group, guided by three experts and five regional ambassadors, will discuss five themes (core functions, resilience, quality of life, social and territorial cohesion, and resources) with the aim of rethinking Luxembourg's approach to land use.

Batty Weber Prize awarded to Georges Hausemer

The €10,000 Batty Weber Prize has been awarded every three years since 1987 to a writer from Luxembourg for his or her entire body of work.

The writer Georges Hausemer has been selected as the winner of the 2017 Batty Weber Prize for literature. The prize-giving ceremony for this prestigious national award was held on 23 October at the National Literature Centre (CNL) in Mersch. The judging panel, chaired by CNL Director Claude D. Conter, chose Georges Hausemer as laureate of the 2017 award for his wide-ranging literary output and especially his extensive travel writings.

Over 111 million paid out in student grants

Economics is the subject of choice for students from Luxembourg.

In 2016/2017 the budget allocated to student grants was 111.1 million. This represents an increase of 14.9 million compared to the previous academic year. This measure concerns 27,494 students. In total, for the 2016/2017 academic year, 29,927 applications for financial assistance were received by the Ministry of Higher Education.

Film Fund Luxembourg presents its annual report for 2016

In 2016, 62 film projects benefited from a selective financial aid which, in total, added up to 36,118,994 euros.

The national fund in support of audiovisual production, better known as the 'Film Fund', has revealed its key figures and its activities for 2016. 102 projects applied for financial support during 2016, of which about 60% in the end received selective financial aid which, in total, added up to 36,118,994 euros.
