Luxembourg has kept its commitments to relocate 557 asylum seekers

With the arrival last November and December of the remaining 67 applicants for international protection hailing from Italy and Greece, the Grand Duchy has fulfilled its mission by keeping its commitments towards the two Member states.

29-asileFollowing the decisions taken by the Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Council in September 2015, Luxembourg undertook to relocate 557 persons under the relocation mechanism for applicants for international protection from Greece and Italy. Thus, as of November 30, 2017 and December 20, 2017, 38 people, including 34 adults and 4 children, were hosted in Luxembourg from Italy. At the same time, 29 people, including 14 adults and 15 children were relocated from Greece on December 19, 2017.

With these latest arrivals, Luxembourg has fulfilled all of its relocation commitments towards the two Member states.

Guaranteed support

Representatives from the Directorate of Immigration, the Luxembourg Office for Reception and Integration (OLAI) and the Directorate of Health welcomed the people at the airport. OLAI will take care of the reception and the social supervision of these people and will support them in their steps of the daily life throughout the procedure of their application for international protection.
