Tourism in Luxembourg City shoots up by 16%

According to figures from the Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO) published after Easter weekend, tourism is booming in the capital.

06-lctoTourism activities, as recorded by Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO), are continuing their positive development of previous years. With a total of 37,706 contacts during the 1st quarter of 2018, tourism activities shot up by 15.83% compared to the same period in 2017. The tourist office on place Guillaume II dealt with 23,317 contacts, which is an increase of 9.75 % compared to the previous year.

As for the geographical origin of tourists visiting the capital, a little over half of visitors come from the Grand Duchy and its neighbouring countries. The top five countries most represented are Germany (19.94%), France (14.78%), Luxembourg (11.62%), Belgium (4.09%) and the Netherlands (3.55%).

The Casemates are attracting crowds

According to the first results from 2018, the number of visitors to the Bock Casemates shot up by 27.26% compared to the 1st quarter of 2017. For the months of January to March of 2014 to 2018, the number of visitors practically doubled, from 8,016 to 14,389 people. 

During the 1st quarter, the LCTO organised a total of 701 guided tours, in other words an increase of 11.45% compared to the 629 tours at the start of 2017. The current trend is more towards personalised and made to measure tours.
