Book and cultures fair
The Book and Cultures Fair is held in March each year as part of the Migration, Culture and Citizenship Festival (Festival des migrations, des cultures et de la citoyenneté) organised by the Liaison Committee of Foreigners' Associations (Comité de liaison des associations d'étrangers, CLAE).
Book & Copyright Days
World Book & Copyright Day is held on 23 April each year. The date — the anniversary of the deaths of both William Shakespeare and Miguel Cervantes — was selected by UNESCO as being symbolic for reading; the event is celebrated all over the world in tribute to books and their authors.
In the Grand Duchy, World Book & Copyright Day spreads in fact over a number of days. A dozen or so partners combine their efforts to make the event particularly high-profile: booksellers, writers, bookbinders, readers, libraries, archives, and various organisations and associations.
'LiteraTour' in Bettembourg
During the book and copyrights days, the town of Bettembourg organises its LiteraTour festival, which is entirely devoted to books and literature. Whether young or old, there will be something for every book worm during these three days.
Countless lectures by Luxembourgish and foreign writers, creative writing workshops, slams, etc. The 'LiteraTour' festival is a whole weekend dedicated to words in a perfectly local setting. Indeed, some of the events take place at Bettembourg castle and its park, at the Le Paris cinema and at the 'Parc merveilleux' (fairy park).
The young festival's objective is clear: Place books in the limelight and foster a taste for literature. Entry to the events is free, with the exception of lectures and performances staged in the 'Parc merveilleux', where the entry fee is the usual to pay. A perfect way thus to combine more than one type of activity.
Festival of the Comic Strip at Contern
For the duration of one weekend in mid-July, the municipality of Contern invites everyone to its International Festival of the Comic Strip.
The Festival, held each year since 1994, offers hundreds of stalls selling new and second-hand comic-strip books, original drawings, posters, figurines and everything to do with comic-strip books.
During the two days of the Festival, fans of the comic-strip genre also have the opportunity to meet many national and international authors and to have their books dedicated.
The Festival also offers a wide range of activities: exhibitions, concerts, street entertainment, and activities for children.
Book Festival in Vianden
The Book Festival in Vianden is organised by the association KultOUReilen and the Nature Park Our each year over two days in September. For two days, Vianden Castle is the meeting place for collectors and connoisseurs of culture and literature. Booksellers, antique dealers, publishers and collectors come to sell their books, but the programme also includes authors' readings, workshops, exhibitions and concerts. Book Days in Walferdange
On the third weekend of November, the town of Walferdange organises its traditional Walfer Bicherdeeg (Book Days in Walferdange), the largest book fair in the Grand Duchy and the Greater Region.
Organised since 1995, Walfer Bicherdeeg give booklovers an opportunity to buy new and secondhand books, meet authors, publishers and other stakeholders in the world of books, visit exhibitions, and attend readings, conferences and concerts.
Activities and reading sessions for children round off the programme.
Walfer Bicherdeeg is also the occasion for theannual awarding of the Lëtzebuerger Buchpräis (Luxembourg book prize), organized by the Grand Duchy's federation of publishing houses.
